During the visit to Sweden by President Hu Jintao in June 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is the first of its kind in the world between two countries, was signed between MOFCOM and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Later, the same month a roundtable discussion on CSR was held in Beijing between Swedish and Chinese officials. At this event the first steps were taken towards setting up a joint Sino-Swedish website with relevant information on CSR in Chinese, to be used by anyone interested in making CSR a part of their core policies and business strategies. The website aims to present and explain ideas, intentions and trends in CSR and to present related laws, regulations and standards. What makes Sweden and China a perfect match in CSR is that both countries dependent on international trade and also have many internationally active companies. To develop a deeper exchange on best policies, standards and implementing arrangements is soon by both parties as very valuable. Related to the website the parties also plan to arrange a series of special training events and activities for officials, business, academia and others interested in CSR.
