Xiangfan to Build a CSR Evaluation System

China Corporate Citizenship Workshop took place in Xiangfan City on Aug. 30, where participating leading officials of Xiangfan City Government vowed to formulatea five-year CSR development program and build a CSR evaluation system to guide local companies through formulation of CSR development strategies.

At the meeting, participants attributed the global financial tsunami to the lack of corporate social responsibility among Wall Street financial tycoons. Given that China currently lacks the mass base for advancement of CSR, the government should plays an more active role as the guider and promoter.

At present, the lack of CSR is mainly manifested in the following aspects: incompliance with the minimum wage level, no provision of obligatory social security, disregard of employee health and safety, ignorance of social problems and livelihood issues, lack of concern and contribution to charity and public benefit, poor awareness of energy saving and emission reduction, ignorance of ecological environment protection and resulting resource depletion and environmental pollution.

Hu Yonghua, a standing committee member of Xiangfan City Party Committee and head of Propaganda Department of Xiangfan Municipal Government, said as the market competition intensified, some firms jeopardize, the interests of the country and consumers by committing frauds, intellectual property infringements and manufacturing and selling counterfeits to make illicit gains. Xiangfan Municipal Government will formulate five-year CSR development program and build a CSR performance evaluation system to guide large enterprises in the city throughout formulation and implementation of CSR development strategy.
